It’s time for the second episode in Season 2 of our virtual travel series, the Coffee Break French Travel Diaries. Charlotte, Théo and Lucas make their way to Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, and begin to discover everything the Medieval city has to offer. In this episode, we encounter some interesting expressions such as prendre des forces, manger sur le pouce, and s’imprégner de qqch. In the latest instalment of La Vérité éclate toujours, we hear a dialogue between James, Yvette, Claire and a brand new character. James, Yvette and Claire take some time to calm down after their narrow escape at the bank before planning their next move and making their way to Geneva. After getting settled in a safe location, Claire reveals the mysterious contents of the box she took from her ex-husband’s safety-deposit box. What has she uncovered? Listen to the episode to find out! Some interesting expressions to look out for include: tu parles ! and être dans la lune.

Welcome to Season 2 of the Coffee Break Italian Travel Diaries for intermediate learners. In this 10-episode series, we follow the adventures of Simone and his wife Anna as they enjoy una settimana bianca (a white week of winter activities) in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. In Episode 1, Simone and Anna make the most of their first day on the slopes. CBF Travel Diaries 2.01 | Paris: un jour, une nuit

Welcome to Season 2 of our Coffee Break French Travel Diaries! This time, we’re following the adventures of Swiss student Charlotte and her friends Lucas and Théo as they take a trip through historic locations in northwestern France. In each episode, teachers Mark and Pierre-Benoît discuss Charlotte’s travel diary and look at interesting vocabulary and expressions for intermediate learners of French. In this first episode, we join the trio on the first leg of their trip as they take the train from Geneva to Paris before setting off on their adventure. Listen out for adjectives of nationality, the conjugation of venir in the present tense, and the conjugation of aller in the future tense. C’est parti !

Hanna and Mark back after our short break and in this week’s lesson we are covering a topic which everyone loves talking about – the weather! Hanna teaches us how to describe the weather in Swedish, both in the present tense and in the future tense. We also get to look at some sentences describing the weather in different parts of Sweden.

Chapitre 16 – On a eu chaud !

We’re back with a brand new episode of La Vérité éclate toujours! As James, Yvette and Claire arrive in Zurich, Claire suggests they visit the bank in an attempt to look for clues in her ex-husband’s safety-deposit box. Everything is going smoothly as Claire succeeds in accessing the box, when all of a sudden she starts to panic and quickly leaves the bank. What went wrong? Find out in Chapter 16! We hear many examples of the following relative pronouns: dans laquelle, sur lequel, que and qui, as well as an example of the ne explétif in a comparative structure.

Kulturhörnan 05 – Samisk kultur i Sverige – Coffee Break Swedish Culture

It’s the fifth and final episode of Kulturhörnan – “culture corner”, and we’re rounding off the series by welcoming a special guest, Irena Dahl, who is an ambassador for the Sami language and culture. In the episode Irena teaches Mark some Northern Sami and explains more about this fascinating culture. We also learn some new Swedish vocabulary with Lovisa.

Kulturhörnan 04 – Nobelpriset – Coffee Break Swedish Culture

We’re back with another episode of our mini Swedish culture series, Kulturhörnan – “culture corner”, and this time we’re learning about one of the most influential Swedes, Alfred Nobel. Join Mark and Lovisa as they discuss his life and work, as well as some nyårslöften (New Year’s Resolutions).

Chapitre 15 – Toutes ces questions s’accélérènt dans sa tête

In the latest episode of our advanced course for French learners, La Vérité éclate toujours, James, Yvette and Claire are on the move as they’re en route to Zurich to follow the only lead in their investigation so far. While James has so many unanswered questions spinning around his head throughout the journey, Claire provides further details of her relationship with Max and Roger. As always, we come into contact with some new words and phrases which will help you take your language skills to the next level. Manigancertueur à gages, and en avoir vu de toutes les couleurs are just some of the words and expressions you can expect to hear in this episode.

Chapitre 14 – C’est la seule piste que nous ayons !

James, Yvette and Claire are in disbelief as they discover the name of Claire’s ex-husband in one of the documents on Max’s USB stick. In an attempt to figure out how everything could be connected, they further examine the contents of the document, and make another discovery that leads them to the next stage of their investigation. As this episode is based around a dialogue between James, Yvette and Claire, we come across a number colloquial expressions and vocabulary. We hear various ways of showing disbelief, including the following phrases: j’en crois pas mes yeux and tout ça n’a aucun sens.

Kulturhörnan 03 – Julafton – Coffee Break Swedish Culture

In the latest episode of our our mini Swedish culture series, Kulturhörnan – “culture corner”, we learn about a typical Swedish Christmas celebration, ett svenskt julfirande. Join Mark and Lovisa as they talk about they type of food which is normally eaten and the gifts that are exchanged during this celebration.

Chapitre 13 – James cliqua sur le premier fichier

Having got to know each other a littler better, James, Claire and Yvette turn their attention to the investigation at hand. After a restless night’s sleep, they begin to examine the files on the USB stick. Claire is shocked to see a name on the first file they open. As ever, the episode is full of interesting expressions including avoir l’étoffe de and être frais et dispos.

Our normal Coffee Break Swedish lessons will return in the new year, but in the meantime it’s the perfect time to find out a little more about Swedish culture with our mini-series, Kulturhörnan – “culture corner”. In this episode, Lovisa tells us about a very popular tradition that takes place on 13th December all across Sweden. Can you guess which tradition we’re talking about?
